A DIRECTOR WHO STAGES A UNIVERSAL SCREENPLAY
To give more than what we are, we have to come out of ourselves, overcome ourselves, get in the upper regions and take items that we can later distribute. This is the secret of divine art: overcome ourselves in order to bring to humanity something better. (M. O. Aivanhov)

It was the summer of 1995 when I really started painting my own subjects. I was in the midst of an existential crisis that had forced me to stop my scientific studies at the university. Later, I was taken up and completed them, but at a different pace and with a greater awareness. The crisis brought to light what for years I had stifled: art. The need to express myself, to experiment, and to get in touch with a world more connected to emotions and the unspeakable. From that moment began a journey that has never stopped, even for a moment. I not only fed myself with art as in the previous years, but I finally created it. I was no longer just an art consumer, but I became a producer. Between a book of physics and one of chemistry, in whatever situation I found myself, I could carve out the time to paint, to make the right side of my brain breathe. In those years I had a lot of garbage to throw out. All I had suffocated in the cellar of my being was rotted. I had to expel the garbage from my mind: anger, dissatisfaction, frustration, sadness, fear. There was everything. I accumulated it for years and it remained unspoken. My hand, as a painter, was not that bad and I made this junk interesting. No one wanted to take it home, almost no one, but everyone was curious and watched it. The figures I painted were a true picture of the mess I was living in that was the mess of the world in which we are all living in. I used to deform and to amplify reality to better show its flaws –so I used to say- to make them more visible to others. I believed this; and perhaps in part it may be true, but since the reality is often the mirror of our inner world, the external reality was also my inner reality. I was focusing on all the ugliness of the world, of all that did not work, but I did not have a solution to propose. I continued to live in a murky atmosphere and that was what I communicated to others; I contaminated them. When this thought has become clear and conscious I faced an artistic blackout. I stopped showing my work and locked myself in my apartment for months. I said to myself that if you have nothing good to say, it is needless to say it by force. Saying something unnecessary or redundant only adds chaos to an already full of chaos world. I would have said something again if and when I would have found a message worthy of being communicated: something good for all men. At that time I was painting for myself, I meditated and studied the ancient spiritual traditions. I was greedy and had a lot of time. I was getting to the dragon and my personal demons trying to look at them, know them, and understand them. This has produced a cathartic phenomenon inside and outside me, in my artworks. My mind began to find new dimensions, new horizons, new sources of inspiration. The weeds were eradicated; I could now begin to cultivate the garden. The ancient spiritual traditions since then have become my first source of inspiration. New forms arrived, new colors, new meanings. It took a while to understand that what I was creating had a deeper meaning, far from my selfishness, my psyche, from my personal problems. Before I manifested the negative reality that I had absorbed, during my all life, after having well contaminated and deformed it by my personal neurosis – neurosis which, after all, we all have. Afterwards, I started taking my material from above, and used to consider myself as a medium: a channel to communicate things that I did not invent and I did not in any way deform. Simple and powerful messages of evolution that since thousands of years try to resonate, among many difficulties, on our planet. It was no longer a matter of listening to the little earthly ego desires, rather than act as a medium of a greater and higher knowledge and certainly more useful to mankind. I deeply believe that the artist should become an ambassador of principles higher than himself. He must drop his selfishness, his personal problems, his personal tastes to be at the service of a higher and more universal cause. The canvas is like a stage on which the artist can not enter. The artist has to be the director who stages a universal screenplay that does not concern himself. The artist, with his personality, has the duty to step aside and leave the whole scene for the representation of universal theater.
